Execution set for Wednesday

ATLANTA — Carlton Gary, known as the “Columbus Stocking Strangler,” has declined a special last meal before his execution.
The Georgia Department Corrections says in a statement that Gary will be served the same meal as other inmates before his execution: a grilled cheeseburger, oven-browned potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw and cookies.
Gary has a hearing Monday before the state Board of Pardons and Paroles. Unless it changes his sentence to life without parole, life with the possibility of parole or grants a stay, Gary is set to be executed Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the state prison at Jackson.
Gary was convicted in three of seven “stocking strangler” slayings in Columbus in 1986. The victims were strangled with their own stockings.
