ATLANTA — Gasoline prices across Georgia are higher than the national average, according to AAA. The other problem is finding fuel for your vehicle.

The auto club reports the average statewide price for regular unleaded is $3.94 a gallon Monday.

The national average is $3.64 for a gallon of regular.

AAA's daily fuel gauge reports showed midgrade averages $4.13 while premium cost $4.32.

Regular gas was cheapest in Savannah at $3.67 a gallon. It was most expensive in Atlanta at $4.04.

In Hinesville, regular unleaded was selling for $3.59-$3.61 per gallon as several stations Monday morning.

Hunt for fuel prompts 911 calls

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) _ Douglas County authorities are asking motorists not to call 911 to find out which stations have gasoline.

County spokesman Wes Tallon reminds people that 911 is for emergencies. And he says 911 operators have no way of knowing which stations have gas.

He says gasoline calls are flooding the 911 system as panicked motorists search for gas because of the shortage that began after a hurricane caused a disruption in gas supplies. He says he's afraid the gas calls will interfere with real emergencies.

And Tallon notes most of the stations themselves don't know when their next gasoline delivery will arrive.

Some tailing fuel tankers

ATLANTA (AP) — A temporary fuel shortage is changing some behavior in Atlanta where some drivers were spotted tailing gasoline tanker trucks to their next stop.

At a bustling QuikTrip between Lawrenceville Highway and the North DeKalb Mall, a line of cars followed a fuel-filled truck as it pulled in about 11 a.m. Sunday. Soon, more motorists pulled in.

Robert Maples, with only had about 10 miles of gas left, says he had been sitting in line for 45 minutes at a Shell station across town when his brother-in-law called to say the fuel truck had arrived. Maples says he rushed over to the QuikTrip.

Some motorists say they'll keep their vehicles parked Monday and take MARTA to work.
