Hazy air likely to continue for a while

BRUNSWICK — Forestry officials say numerous fires in the Southeast, along with a lack of rainfall, could keep the air hazy and smoky in coastal Georgia for a while.

Georgia Forestry Commission Chief Ranger Mark McClellan said Wednesday that Glynn County is surrounded by major fires that cover more than 150,000 acres in Florida and bigger fires to the west and north in Georgia.

McClellan says Glynn County also has had some small fires. He says one fire burned 45 acres of industrial timber land Tuesday.

McClellan says that fire was contained Wednesday, but it wasn't extinguished.

He says the lack of rainfall is likely to mean there will be more fires.
