ATLANTA — A committee established to improve transit services in rural and disadvantaged areas of Georgia plans to hold a public meeting to consider initial reorganization recommendations.

The Rural and Human Services Transportation Advisory Subcommittee is set to meet on July 26 at the state Department of Transportation's general office in Atlanta.

The subcommittee was established last year by the Georgia Legislature. It is chaired by Georgia DOT Commissioner Vance C. Smith Jr., and includes top state education, health, community affairs and human services officials.

It is meant to identify and implement policies and practices that will improve transit services in rural areas of the state and to disadvantaged Georgians who depend on transit for necessary, day-to-day transportation.
