I-95 work could cause delays

The Department of Transportation is warning that construction on I-95 in Liberty and McIntosh counties could cause major delays Friday night and Saturday morning.

The work will start at 7 p.m. Friday and continue into 7 a.m. Saturday and will include repaving of two northbound, center lanes from mile marker 66 in McIntosh County to MM 74 (two miles south of the Midway exit) in Liberty County.
The advisory from the DOT reads, "Northbound motorists should expect major delays and are strongly advised to use alternate routes."
Highway 17 runs parallel with the interstate through that area.
It is not the only expected traffic problem across the state, but it is the closest to Liberty. For real-time construction reports throughout Georgia, refer to the full statewide weekend list or statewide map at at www.511ga.org or www.georgia-navigator.com, or call 511 from any phone, 24 hours a day.

An earlier version of this story said construction was to start Thursday night because of a DOT error.
