Kingston hosting VA forum
Jack Kingston 8 05
U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston
U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., will address veterans’ issues Tuesday at a Veteran’s Forum for constituents in his district. The forum will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Armstrong Atlantic State University’s Armstrong Center on Abercorn Street, across from the Savannah Mall in Savannah.
Veterans groups and nonprofit organizations that help supplement U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs services and programs will offer veterans assistance.
“We owe so much to our veterans and want to make sure that they know about all of the programs and assistance that are available to them through the VA and other agencies,” Kingston said.  “I encourage all area veterans who need help to attend this forum. Whether they need assistance with completing forms, processing a claim, or just want to learn more about the many opportunities for which they may eligible for, we’ll have answers for them.”
Veterans interested in applying for or learning more about programs offered through the Department of Veterans Affairs are encouraged to attend, said Kingston spokesman Chris Carpenter. “Additionally, there will be a panel discussion on common VA issues at 11 a.m.,” Carpenter said. “Among the panelists will be Mr. Steve Furrer, Assistant Director, Mr. Wil Price, Assistant Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Officer, Mrs. Bambi Anderson-Ivers, Assistant Veterans Service Center Manager and Mr. Jason Stansberry, Veterans Service Representative.”
“Bryan, Liberty, and Long counties have a combined veteran total of over 10,000. Chatham has in excess of 25,000 veterans,” said Vietnam Veteran Bruce McCartney, who is active in veterans’ issues. McCartney volunteers for a number of veterans organizations including Horses for Heroes and helps coordinate an independent living program for disabled veterans. Horses for Heroes pair’s therapeutic horses with injured soldiers. McCartney plans to attend the forum and encourages other veterans to do so as well.
