WASHINGTON, D.C. — Four months into his first term, Congressman Earl L. “Buddy” Carter, R-Ga., has earned an appointment to the House Republican Whip Team.
In announcing the move, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., praised Carter for his business experience and commitment to advancing conservative reforms.
“It is an honor to appoint my friend and colleague Buddy Carter to the Whip Team,” Scalise said. “Buddy’s strong commitment to public service and experience and expertise as a businessman and leader in his community will make him a valuable asset to the team. I look forward to working with Congressman Carter to unite the Republican Conference and pass bold conservative solutions that will get our country back on the right track.”
As deputy whip, Carter will be charged with assisting Scalise and Chief Deputy Whip Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., with managing and building support for legislation on the floor. The post also provides him with a key perch from which to influence the legislative process and advocate for issues of importance to Georgia and the 1st Congressional District.
Carter, whose district includes Liberty and Long counties, served as whip and chief deputy whip in the Georgia Senate.
“I am honored and excited that Whip Scalise has asked me to join the whip team,” Carter said. “I hope to unify the Republican Conference in support of conservative efforts to promote economic growth and job creation, reduce overly burdensome federal regulations, repeal and replace Obamacare, secure our border, promote energy independence and reform our antiquated tax code. Together, we will deliver the results the American people are yearning for and leave our country better off for the next generation.”
