SAVANNAH — Four people are being recognized for helping children who were attacked by two dogs at a Savannah playground this month.

The Savannah Morning News reports that Kaamilya Hollis, Bernard Moultrie and Henry Murphy were recognized for their heroic acts during Thursday's Savannah City Council meeting. Herbert Swain, who was unable to attend the meeting, was also recognized.

Authorities say one dog bit 7-year-old Javon Roberson's face with such ferocity that people who came to his aid had to use bricks to beat the animal unconscious so it would release its jaws from the child's head.

Authorities say the other dog went after other children who tried to escape by climbing up a slide.

The bystanders chased that dog away by hitting it with bricks and firing a gun at it.
