FOLKSTON — Fire information officials say the Okefenokee Swamp's Honey Prairie Fire continues to grow.

The joint information center for the team fighting the fire says it's now 286,698 acres, up about 3,000 acres in two days.

John Nicholls, a fire information officer, said Wednesday a new team is taking over management of the fire.

The Northeast Compact Incident Management Team is an interagency team with members from the U.S. and Canada.

Management of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is discussing when the refuge can be reopened safely.

Crews continue to patrol and to mop up hot spots on the Sweat Farm Again Fire, which is 70 percent contained at 19,169 acres, and the Race Pond Fire, which is 69 percent contained at 20,934 acres.
