Super Bowl champ home to promote Foundation’s 5K
Ulrick John

Former Bradwell Institute and Georgia State Football player, Ulrick John, visited Gateway Training Center Friday morning as part of his mission with the Ulrick John Foundation.

The Liberty County native and current New England Patriot football player and Super Bowl champion, created the Foundation for the purpose of “Empowering adults/children with developmental disabilities by providing an environment that will allow those individuals to function through education, counseling and mentoring to fulfill their dreams and goals.”

During his visit at Gateway John, got to mingle with the children, shared treats and took several photographs. The center holds a special place in John’s heart. During his high school years John frequently volunteered his time in helping the children with events and activities.

After his visit at Gateway John paid a visit to the folks at Vaden Nissan of Hinesville.

In November 2017, The Ulrick John Foundation and ASM Sports Consulting announced a partnership with the Vaden Nissan Group. The partnership allows both parties to help the Liberty County area raise awareness for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

At the meet and greet John signed autographs and took photos with the public.  The event started at 11 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. There was live music and representatives from ESPN Sports. Vaden Nissan Marketing Manager Lora Gunsallus had her crew set up a bar-b-que grill providing folks with free burgers.

ASM Sports Consulting founder Nate Schaffer said the meet and greet was to help promote the Ulrick John Foundation 5K happening tomorrow at 8 a.m. The 5K will benefit the Foundation and the Gateway Center. The race starts and ends at Bradwell Park.

Folks can still register at the race. Registrations will start at 7 a.m. The race begins at 8 a.m. Day of race fee is $15.

About Ulrick John
John grew up in Hinesville since the age of 3. He started his football career at Bradwell Institute, graduating in 2010.
He played college football at Georgia State while earning his degree in exercise science. He became the first football player from Liberty County to be drafted in the NFL drafter. That was in the seventh round of the 2014 draft by the Indianapolis Colts. 
May 10 has been proclaimed Ulrick John Day by the city of Hinesville. 
John was picked up by the Miami Dolphins for one season and played one season with the Arizona Cardinals. In September 2017 he was signed by the Green Bay Packers. In May 2018 John was signed to the New England Patriots. The Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl.
