A Liberty County kindergarten teacher has been arrested and charged with child molestation. He is on administrative leave from the school system.

According to Long County Sheriff Craig Nobles, Dennis Cooke, 40, was arrested Saturday morning at his home in Long County and charged with 4 counts of sexual molestation of a child. He taught at Taylors Creek Elementary School in Hinesville.

Nobles declined to go into details of the case but said the child was not of toddler age. When asked if the four counts of child molestation applied to the same victim he also declined to comment. Nobles would say that the alleged crimes took place in Long County, and no known incidents took place in Liberty County where Cooke taught school.

Cooke is being held on a $200,000 bond.

LCSS officials issued a statement Monday afternoon regarding Cooke's arrest: "Liberty County kindergarten teacher, Dennis Cooke, was arrested over the weekend on child molestation charges. The Liberty County School System has placed Mr. Cooke on administrative leave. It is our understanding that his arrest involved an issue in Long County. The district has no knowledge of any wrongdoing in our school system; however, we will cooperate with law enforcement and conduct an internal investigation to ensure that professional ethic standards were not violated. The district is committed to holding all employees to high standards of conduct, and as such, we will continue to maintain excellence in everything."
