The Hinesville Police Department had their hands full this past Sunday as they responded to three separate car accidents with one involving a HPD patrol car.
According to LT. Dave Guy the chain of events began shortly after 3 pm. Sunday afternoon when officers responded to a vehicle roll over on Becky Street. In that incident the female driver hydroplaned on the wet pavement which caused her car to flip.
The woman was not injured in that accident.
Meanwhile in another section of the City, an HPD officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on E.G. Miles Parkway when the driver of the white Malibu began to flee from the officer.
Within minutes of accelerating, the driver of the Malibu struck a pickup truck at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and E.G. Miles.
The driver jumped out of the car and began to run on foot, but was immediately apprehended by responding HPD officers.
One HPD Officer, who was on his way to assist the attempted fleeing, was also involved in an accident when his vehicle hydroplaned. His patrol vehicle jumped the median strip and stuck another vehicle.
The driver of the Malibu, who has not been identified, is facing the following charges: attempting to elude, suspended registration, suspended license, two counts of obstruction, and an open container in the vehicle. DUI charges might be pending based on toxicology tests.
No injuries were reported.
