Hinesville police placed two men in custody Friday night following the department’s investigation into the city’s first homicide of the year.
HPD Chief of Detectives Maj. Thomas Cribbs said 23-year-old Eddie Goodwin of Walthourville and 21-year-old Rajiv Laurent of Hinesville were arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old Deterrell Esque Jackson.
Laurent was arrested around 9 p.m. in front of his Flo Zechman Drive home, while Goodwin was arrested around midnight at his Shaw Road residence.
Both subjects have been charged with one count of murder, although investigators contend only one of the suspects is responsible for firing the fatal shot.
Goodwin and Laurent are in custody at the Liberty County Regional Jail.
A first appearance could come as early as Monday, Cribbs said. Additional charges are possible in the case.
According to investigators, Jackson was found on the ground around 6 p.m. Jan. 16 in the Alston Ridge Mobile Home Park suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
A park resident reported hearing “eight or nine gun shots” fired, possibly from two separate guns.
Cribbs previously stated the teenager’s death was believed to have been the result of a confrontation that turned into “some gun play.”
