It appears incumbent Lily Baker narrowly defeated challenger Scott Carrier in Tuesday’s nonpartisan general election for chairman of the Liberty County Board of Education.

Baker received 2,732 votes to 2,649 cast for Carrier, according to Liberty County election officials.

In other school board races, incumbents Marcus Scott in District 5 and Dr. Yvette Keel in District 6 were both beaten. Scott fell to challenger Dr. Chante Baker Martin  462-357. Keel lost 344-183 to Donita Strickland.

The District 4 seat was sought by three candidates, Karen Branson, Jim Johns and Annette Payne. No candidate got more than 50 percent of the vote, but Payne and Johns were the top two vote getters. That apparently means a runoff.

All results are unofficial until certified by the Georgia secretary of state’s office.
