Voters in four cities heading to the polls
vote

Polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. for municipal elections across the county.

In Hinesville, all five city council seats are contested and a new mayor will be selected. Current Council member Karl Riles and Liston Singletary III are running for the mayor’s seat, which is open as Allen Brown has reached his term limit. Brown, who was mayor for eight years prior, cannot run again after serving back-to-back four-year terms. Candidates for District 1 are incumbent Diana Reid and challengers Marcello Page and Alan White. In District 2, incumbent Jason Floyd faces challenger Robert Cunningham. District 3 incumbent Vicky Nelson is challenged by Arthur Nixon.

There will be at least two new members of Hinesville City Council as District 4’s Keith Jenkins is not running for re-election and Riles is giving up his District 5 seat to run for mayor.

Mike Alamo, Dexter Newby and Joel Nicholson Jr. are running for District 4 and Henry Covington, Eric Hollis and Jose Ortiz are running for the District 5 seat.

In Walthourville, only City Council Post 4 incumbent Luciria Luckey Lovette does not face opposition.

Four candidates are running for mayor — incumbent Larry Baker, Charlie Anderson, Sarah Hayes and Paulette Jamison. Incumbent James Hendry faces challenge Mitchell Boston for his Post 1 seat, Daisy Pray and Patrick Underwood are running for the open Post 2 seat, incumbent Bridgette Kelly faces challenger Alan Stewart for Post 3 and Robert Dodd and Patricia Green are running for the open Post 5 seat.

Walthourville’s polling place will be Victory Baptist Church at 1933 Talmadge Road.

James Willis does not face opposition for the mayor’s post of Allenhurst and four people — incumbents Eleanor Easton, William Harrell and Steve Welborn, along with Nicole Reed, are running for three seats.

Riceboro Mayor Chris Stacy also does not face any challenger in his re-election bid. There are four incumbents running for city council seats — Pearlie Axson, Louise Brown, David Miller and John Young — running and three challengers — Tim Akra, Rosemary Houston and Joseph Wynn.

According to Liberty County Elections and Registration, more than 1,910 votes have been cast in early voting through October 31.
