Liberty County School Superintendent Dr. Franklin Perry introduced new Taylors Creek Elementary School principal Debra Wingate Thursday during a called school board meeting. The Board of Education named Wingate as principal following a 30-minute executive session. The board held a closed door session to discuss personnel, and took two votes on personnel matters once it re-entered open session.

Wingate most recently served as an assistant principal at Walker Elementary School in Long County. She served in the Long County School District for 21 years. Wingate attended the called meeting with her husband, Brian Wingate, and their daughter Liz.

“I’m a family person and a teacher at heart,” Wingate said.

Liberty County public school students will return to class on Aug. 6.
