A Ludowici woman later died from her injuries after being hit by a vehicle Saturday night just before 10:30 p.m.
According to Ludowici Police Chief Robert Parker, a motorist traveling in the westbound lane of Highway 84 spotted a woman who appeared to be sitting in the middle of 84 in Ludowici near Roberson Street. Parker said the motorist was in the process of calling 911 to report the woman when she was struck by a Wayne County man traveling east. He told authorities he did not see the woman. The driver immediately pulled over and called 911 for help, Parker said.
When emergency medical personnel arrived the woman was lying in the roadway unconscious and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the vehicle is not expected to be charged. The Long County Sheriffs Office is taking the lead in investigating the incident
