Earlier story:

A three-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in Hinesville sent two to the hospital.

According to GSP Trooper Lyle Thurmond, the accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 196 West and Cove Street at 6:45 a.m. when a man driving a 1991 Oldsmobile apparently fell asleep and veered into the center lane as an empty Liberty County school bus was making a turn onto Cove Street.

The driver struck the front bumper of the school bus, causing minor damage. When he woke up, he accidentally steered into oncoming traffic and his vehicle collided with a 1996 Saturn driven by a woman.

The man was transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville with non-life-threatening injuries. The woman suffered deep lacerations to her legs, according to Thurmond, and had to be flown by Life Star to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
