Consider Chipper's next assignment

Let’s talk a little inside baseball today. Let’s talk Atlanta Braves baseball and offer an idea for the team as it moves forward from the disappointing late season collapse that kept the Braves out of post-season play.
So far one member of the coaching staff has fallen by the wayside. Hitting coach Larry Parrish was fired two days after the Braves season ended because lack of hitting or inconsistent hitting was one of the big weaknesses of the team.
Who might become the new hitting coach? We offer a suggestion. Why not make aging superstar Chipper Jones a player/hitting coach for the 2012 season?
Jones has indicated he will return as a player next season. He will be 40 years old soon after the season starts. He’s still a gifted player. He exhibited this past season when he is healthy he is still a solid hitter.
We think Jones could continue as a player and be a formidable hitting coach. Not only is he still a solid hitter, he knows hitting and knows how to communicate to the current Braves players who respect him and look up to him.
Management needs to consider this idea. As Chipper Jones’ playing days wind down, he can still play a key role in the success of this young Braves team — we think as a hitting coach.
