Deputies should be in neighborhoods, not on interstate

Editor, The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office’s Tag Reader System would be better used in Hinesville on Highway 196,  or on Highway 17 or even Highway 84 — anywhere these highways cross Liberty County.
Interstate travelers are the responsibility of the Georgia State Patrol. There is no good reason for Liberty County deputies to “protect and serve” on the interstate. This is a common problem statewide and should not be encouraged.
“Preying” is the word that more closely defines what county deputies are doing on interstates. It seems we have too many officers if we can let them while away their time “posting” on I-95 and bagging folks who have performed no ill in the neighborhoods and cities of this county.
