Keep Liberty Beautiful
Keep Liberty Beautiful would like to thank the many restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, and bars participating in the Cigarette Litter Prevention coaster/ashtrays giveaway campaign “Georgia’s Coast is Not an Ashtray” from June to September 2023! KLB will also give away 20 campaign T-shirts. Details on receiving a T-shirt will be on our KLB Facebook page.
Please look for the messaged drink coasters and placemats when you go out to eat or drink and take a photo with a coaster. You could win a KLB goodie bag! Remember that made of cellulose acetate, a type of plastic, cigarette butts do not biodegrade and are the nation’s number one most littered item. Blown or tossed into storm drains and waterways, they become toxic litter, potentially harming sensitive ecosystems and their inhabitants. We hope this Cigarette Litter Prevention Event helped spread the message about cigarette litter prevention. We appreciate all the support from Liberty County restaurants, cafes, hotels, pubs, coffee shops, and bars that used the messaged drink coasters and ashtrays. We could not have done it without you, and thank you so much!”
KLB partnered with Georgia Coastal Management Program/Coca-Cola United and Target for the Sky to Ground, Build Your Own Rain Barrel Workshop that was held on Aug. 30. Ten people from Liberty County learned about the benefit of having a rain barrel and making one to take home. We hope to have more workshops in Liberty County.
September is a busy month for Keep Liberty Beautiful, and I cannot wait to share the information on all our upcoming events in September! First, we have the Native Plants Awareness events. You can see all the information we shared on native plants on Facebook, our website, and Instagram. The next event is our annual beach sweep on St Catherine’s Island on Saturday, September 9. A beach sweep means we will be ‘sweeping’ any trash and debris left on the beaches by beach visitors. This is one of the most popular cleanups we do. We are soliciting boaters to volunteer to provide transportation for our cleanup volunteers that day. We welcome your involvement if you have a boat or want to volunteer to clean up! We book volunteers in the order we receive their requests. You can sign up at https://bit. ly/beachsweep23 or contact KLB at (912) 8804888 to register!
The last event in September is Your State Parks Day, on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come assist with sprucing up Fort Morris Historic Site.
