Letter to the editor: A successful Season of HOPE 2021
Letter to the Editor generic

Dear Editor:

Even though we are in a global pandemic, God is still providing opportunities to serve individuals and families within our community.

Another Chance Outreach Ministries, Inc. (ACOM) continues to serve because individuals and families basic needs are on the increase in our area. This has been a year of uncertainty for many and the requests for assistance of resources and support has been on the rise since the beginning of 2021.

Another Chance Outreach Ministries’ annual Season of HOPE event provided Christmas gifts for every family member, food baskets, clothes, shoes, household goods and meals to more than 200 families and individuals in Liberty County on Saturday, December 11th on the campus of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. Families were afforded the opportunity to register over a five-week period.

During that time ACOM prepared donation boxes and placed them throughout the city of Hinesville. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions ACOM once again conducted a “drive-thru” event. This year the Liberty County Manna House provided turkeys and meat packages to go along with the food baskets prepared by ACOM. Because of the selfless service of volunteers, we were able to expand the sources of assistance through Season of HOPE 2021 by allowing the families to park their cars after receiving the food baskets and Christmas gifts and go shopping at no cost to them. We provided brand new household goods, towels, blankets, washcloths, women shoes and clothing, men shoes and clothing, face mask and hand sanitizer were all a part of the Season of HOPE 2021 giveaway.

We are grateful to Mrs. Lavonia LeCounte and the GANG, Inc. organization for their annual donations to assist these families in need and homeless individuals.

Our “street” homeless men and women were transported to the Season of HOPE 2021 event and treated to a specially prepared luncheon, donated by our local Church’s Chicken. Prior to eating they too went shopping for some much-needed clothing and items for the upcoming winter weather. It is because of this year-round support that Another Chance Outreach Ministry, Inc. can provide our “street” homeless population with a daily hot lunch, personal hygiene packages and PPE supplies and when available temporary emergency housing vouchers since 2020 (Bridging the GAP), our focus is to help them to rise above their present situation and circumstances.

We are grateful for the local business owners who supported and allowed ACOM to place donation boxes in their place of business: Crown and Glory Beauty Salon, the Felton Group, the Recovery Place, AP Car Wash and Auto Detailing and the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. These businesses express their care and concern for the recipients of Season of HOPE 2021 by encouraging their staff, clients, customers, and partitioners to help make the difference in the lives of others during the Christmas Season by donating gifts and toy.

Season of HOPE 2021 was also blessed by the generosity of friends and families who supported with monetary donations to ensure that every registered family received Christmas gifts, therefore we would like to personally thank Mr. McKinley Sardin, Mrs. Edna Walthour, Ms. D. Clemmons, Mr. Jeffrey Porter, Ms. Angel Watts, Mr. Gerald and Dr. Bonita Smith, Mrs. Liza Moreland, Ms. Ciara Washington, Ms. Jennifer Johnson, Elder Darius Peterson, Minister LaDonna Marie Cook, Ms. Susan Scott, Elder Cynthia Bryant, Ms. Carolyn Jamison, Mr. Rodney and Mrs. Heather Harvey, Mr. Michael Hollis, Mr. Everett Gorum, Ms. Tashara West, Mr. Sharifah Al-Amin, Ms. Jane West, Ms. Michelle Bowman, Ms. Jessica Jackson and Ms. Earnestine Walthour. We would like to thank the following Pastors and churches for their year-round support: Pastor Larry and Dr. Mary Murray (Fellowship of Love Worship Center), Bishop AD and First Lady Quamea Shaw (Full Gospel Tabernacle COGIC), the Morning Manna Ministries Broadcast w/ Bishop Kevin L.Betton Sr., and Pastor Glenda and Elder Jimmy Bradley (House of Refuge Church).

The success of this sixth year for Season of HOPE was due to God’s Grace and the unselfish collaboration of generous donors, local businesses, community service agencies, and volunteers who have all embraced the need to serve the needs of our homeless community and those in need to the best of our ability…for that Another Chance Outreach Ministries, Inc. would like to thank you for Helping us, Help them.

Due to the abundance of gifts and resources this year ACOM was able to make special donations of blankets and household items to the Liberty County Reentry Coalition, Inc., Family Hospice, and Fair Haven Domestic Violence Shelter.
