Overman column was a delight
Letter to editor

Editor, I am writing to commend the Courier and Margie Love on the delightful article featuring Mr. A.G. Overman in the Sunday, Aug. 20, edition.
Reading his letter was a true delight.
I was privileged to know Mr. Overman as he and Mrs. Overman were members of the First United Methodist Church when my father was assigned to be the church’s pastor in 1968. Mr. Overman thrilled us with a story he heard as a boy in Douglas, Ga., of my great-grandfather being on sentry duty during the last battle at Fort McAllister in Richmond Hill.
Our men’s Bible class is named for Mr. Overman, who was a long-time, beloved teacher of the class.
Mrs. Overman was one of our church’s first historians. She oversaw the compilation of our first church history.
Thank you again for the wonderful memories.

— Judy Shippey,
historian, First United Methodist Church of Hinesville
