Editor, Interesting article by Tiffany King about SPLOST ("County finalizes list of SPLOST projects," page 1A, May 18). Two out of seven commissioners opposed the project list. One commissioner admits the county has "a serious debt problem … I sat here and helped them make it."
One of the arguments for passing the SPLOST is that folks from out of county will be spending their monies here, helping to fund all these projects. Then they are going to take a good chunk of the monies received and build an east-west bypass around Hinesville, the main revenue generator. If folks are on the bypass, I think it’s pretty much a guarantee they won’t be stopping and spending any money.
Think that may fall into the "duh," or cutting-off-your-nose-to-spite-your-face category.
Just my 2 cents.
