The 14U Coastal Crew Rebels won first place at the Statesboro Boys and Girls Club Tournament last weekend under new head coach Rodney Davis.
"I want to thank the 14U coach Rodney Davis for the great work he did with the kids this summer," St. James Sports Center director and the 17U Rebels coach Ernie Walthour said.
Meanwhile the 17U Rebels are headed to nationals at Disney World this weekend. They are scheduled to play two games on Sunday. One of them will challenge the Rebels like never before.
"We are going up against the number one AAU team in the country Sunday night at 7 p.m.," Walthour said. "I guarantee there will be no less than 500 scouts involved for that one game alone."
Walthour said it will pit his players against some of the top Division I prospects, but he has a few of his own to meet the challenge.
"We have Division I players in Jordan McRae, Joey Bell, Justin Boyd and Jimmy Bacon and we are excited about that," he said.
That particular game sponsored by Reebok.
"We are getting ready to head out Saturday morning and the kids are fired up about going to nationals," the coach said.
17U Rebels schedule for nationals:
Pool R
1 p.m. Sunday vs. Gulf Coast Rams
7 p.m. Sunday vs. Team Breakdown
4 p.m. Monday vs. Memphis Idlewild Wildcats
How they do in their pool play will determine their seed for the bracket play, which starts on Tuesday.
