On Friday the Long County High School football team traveled over to Baxley for their first Region 2-AAA game of the year. After dropping their first five games of the regular season the Blue Tide was hoping to get their first win against Appling County at home. Unfortunately for the Tide, the Pirates had other ideas. In a lopsided contest the Baxley team beat Long County 35-0.
With their cannon loaded and ready, Appling County’s offense scored on five of their eight possessions.
On the defensive side of the ball the Pirates did even better shutting out Long County. Of the eight times that the Blue Tide had the ball, they had to punt four times, they had the ball intercepted twice, and they turned the ball over twice on downs.
After the game Long County head coach J.T. Pollock had little to say.
"After a game like this all you can tell the kids is, this is like a bad day at work, you go home, you take a shower and you get the stink off you," Pollock said.
With the loss Long County drops to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the region while Appling County improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the region.
Next week Long County will be back at home taking on Pierce County. That game starts at 7:30 and it will also be Homecoming for the Blue Tide. Pick up a Wednesday paper for a preview.
