BI boys team wins title

The Bradwell Institute boys’ junior-varsity basketball team won the boys’ championship division at the 22nd annual Donell Woods Tournament on Saturday at BI and Snelson-Golden Middle School.
The BI boys’ team fought its way through bracket play to beat Richmond Hill in the final, 47-38.
In the girls’ division, Beach High took the first-place trophy after defeating Richmond Hill, 46-27, in the final.
The tournament, which is named in honor of former youth mentor and high-school coach Donell Woods, started with a set of freshman teams taking the court.
In the girls’ ninth-grade game, the BI Lady Tigers and Richmond Hill Lady Wildcats tied, 34-34. The BI ninth-grade girls also lost to Statesboro, 35-17. The Tiger ninth-grade boys lost to Richmond Hill, 35-25, and to Glynn Academy, 45-32.
The remainder of the tournament pitted the junior-varsity teams from Glynn Academy, Richmond Hill, Bradwell, Statesboro, Beach, Johnson and Coffee County in tournament and bracket play.
