JUNIOR STANDOUT: Jasmine Blevins has been a force for Bradwell basketball in the early part of the 2017 season. The 5-foot-5, junior guard is in her third year playing varsity basketball for the Lady Tigers (2-1), and she has become a focal point offensively and defensively.
For the year, Blevins is averaging 24 points and 6 steals per game, and she has earned two Player of the Game awards (vs. Liberty on Nov. 18 and vs. Beach on Nov. 21). She is already ahead of her team-leading 2016-17 pace when she averaged 17 points and 3 steals per game.
Blevins started her season with a strong performance against Liberty (38 points, 10 steals) and she built on that against Woodville-Tompkins (14 points, 3 steals). In the Lady Tigers lone loss of the year against Beach, Blevins held her own as well (20 points, 4 steals).
TIGERS AND LADY TIGERS FINDING EARLY SUCCESS: Both Bradwell Institute basketball teams are finding early season success in their 2017-18 campaigns. The Tigers are 3-0 thus far, with impressive wins against Liberty (84-73), Woodville-Tompkins (62-56), and Beach (71-49). The Tigers have outscored their opponents 217-178 during the three-game winning streak, averaging 72 points per game while holding opponents to just 59.
The Lady Tigers are currently 2-1 on the season, with dominating performances against Liberty (69-27) and Woodville-Tompkins (57-40) before losing a heartbreaker to Beach (48-50). The Lady Tigers are scoring 58 points per game for the year, while holding opponents to just 39.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers hope to continue the success in with games against Tattnall County on Friday and Liberty County Saturday.
CROSSCOUNTRY RECORD FALLS: Bradwell cross country and track star Kailie Brough broke another school record recently, recording a time of 19:43 at the 5k Meet of Champions in Fayetteville. Brough is well on her way to holding all female distance-running records at B.I.
HARRIS LEADS THE WAY: Junior running back Kevin Harris finished the regular season with as the Region 2-AAAAAA leader in total yards (1,691), rushing yards per game (169.1), and rushing touchdowns (16). Harris’ rushing yard total was the second highest in all of AAAAAA and the sixth highest in all Georgia classifications.
