The Long County girls basketball team lost to the Camden County Wildcats this past Tuesday.
Having to travel to Kingsland, the Blue Tide ladies kept it close as they took on the 3-AAAAA power house in hostile territory.
At the end of the first period, the Lady Tide was only down by 5 with the Wildcats leading 17-12, but by the end of the third period Camden had extended their lead to 54-37.
In the final period, the Blue Tide girls showed they had heart by outscoring the Lady Cats, 20 to 15, but it wasn’t enough as the final score was 69-57 Camden County.
“We played hard, but Camden had good speed, good shooters and some depth,” Long County head coach Julie Daffron said.
“I am proud of the girls and they need to keep their heads up. We are now two and three, and that’s okay. We have been playing 4-A and 5-A schools and I am hopeful this will make us stronger for our region play,” Daffron said.
In Tuesday night’s game, Shanetra Quarterman led all scores with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Brittany Mills had 15 points, 2 rebounds, 8 steals and 1 blocked shot.
Shareka Turner had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocked shots. Caela LaRochester led all players in rebounds with 11, and also added 2 points and 2 blocked shots.
The Blue Tide ladies will host their first Region 2-AA game this Friday when McIntosh County comes to town.
The Lady Buccaneers were the region champs last year and went to the final elite eight in the state playoffs.
The game will start 6 p.m.
