The Long County High School boys basketball team wrapped up its Thanksgiving break by playing in a tournament and then facing arch rival Wayne County.

In the tournament, the boys defeated South Effingham 70-54 on Nov. 19, but lost the next night to Claxton 66-58.

"The Tip Off Tournament in South Effingham gave us a glimpse to what we can play if we put all the elements of our game together," Blue Tide coach Deshon Brock said.

On Nov. 27, Long County dropped to 1-4 after falling 56-64 to Wayne County.

Brock said that his team played hard against the Jesup team and held the lead for much of the game. But, he added, "When you miss 20 of 30 free throws and they make the majority of theirs, you can’t win."

Brock said that despite the loss, Jamal Anderson had a great game with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots. The coach also was pleased with the play of Jamal Posey, Akeem Boyd and Jarques Payne.

The Blue Tide are at home Saturday to take on Liberty County. The Panthers defeated the Tide last month 65-46. The game begins at 8 p.m.
