Appling County High School defeated Long County on Friday, winning the game 15-1 in five innings.
The Blue Tide came into the game on a four-game winning streak, but the Pirates, who are the 2-AA No. 2 team in the state (according to the PrepCountry.com/GACA Coaches Poll), proved to be too much for the Tide to handle.
The loss dropped Long County’s overall record
to 6-13 and their 2-AA
Region record to 5-6.
Despite the loss, Long County is still fourth in the region behind Jeff Davis (11-4 overall), Appling County (15-3 overall) and Pierce County (11-6 overall).
The schedule won’t get easier for the Blue Tide as they travel to Hazlehurst on Tuesday to tangle with Jeff Davis.
The Yellow Jackets are currently the No. 7 team in the state. Jeff Davis beat the Blue Tide, 12-9, earlier this season.
On defense, the Yellow Jackets are allowing about 5.3 runs per game compared to the Tide’s 9.6 runs per game. On offense the two teams are closer. Long County is earning about 6.5 runs to Jeff Davis’ 7.4.
Tuesday’s game in Hazlehurst starts at 6 p.m.
