Bradwell Institute starts Region 3-AAAAA action this Friday at Richmond Hill high School.

The Tigers are coming off a close 13-6 loss to Calvary Day at home. Bradwell moved the ball well on the ground, amassing 239 rushing yards, led by senior Luther Echols, who had 100 yards on 11 carries.

Trevon McCoy rushed for 91 yards. Tiger quarterback Duane Johnson passed 1 of 5 for 12 yards. However, penalties hurt the Tigers’ offensive efforts. BI was penalized eight times for 40 yards last week against Calvary Day.

Bradwell’s defense played strong, led by Isaac Moana with 13 tackles, Isaiah Quarterman with 12, and Joshua Ingram with 11.

The Wildcats, who beat the Tigers 28-7 last year, are coming off a 58-0 win over Johnson in last Friday’s season opener. The Wildcats no longer have top rusher Ronnie Harris, who graduated. And last year’s No. 2 rusher, Elisha Polite, is playing for Liberty County. Last year, Harris accounted for 202 rushing yards against the Tigers, while Polite had 85 rushing yards and 46 yards in kick returns.

Last week, junior Wildcat quarterback Brian Hughes was 6-of-12 passing for 165 yards and four touchdowns.
Senior QB Xavier Bryant-Long was 2-of-3 passing for 17 yards and a touchdown.

Hughes also led in rushing with 76 yards on nine carries. Bryant-Long rushed for 51 yards and a TD.

Sophomore Sam James made two catches, both good for TDs and a total of 50 yards. Taylor Milbradt, Andre Walker and Aaron Bedgood each had a touchdown reception.

Milbradt led the team with seven tackles.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
