Bradwell loses at Brunswick, falls to 0-9 overall

Bradwell Institute fell 34-13 to Brunswick High School on Friday in Region 3-AAAAA contest in Brunswick.

The loss dropped the Tigers at 0-9 overall and 0-7 in the region with one game left on their schedule.
Brunswick quarterback Shawn Smith led the Pirates in rushing with 134 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns for the night. Tiger running back Luther Echols matched the running yards with 134 yards and scored a touchdown.

The first quarter was a defensive standoff, but in the second quarter, Smith scored on a 17-yard run.
The Pirates had the 7-0 lead going into the half.

In the third quarter, Smith had an 8-yard TD run, and Brunswick running back Benjamin McCloud scampered in from 15 yards out to give the home team a 20-0 lead going into the final quarter. Brunswick then got a 5-yard touchdown run from Kenneth Dallas.

Bradwell got on the scoreboard when Tiger Imani Hurte scampered in from the Brunswick 9. But the Pirates answered with a 48-yard TD run from Smith.

Echols then scored on a 5-yard run.
Pirates kicker Mitchell Fineran made 4 of 5 point-after attempts. Tiger kicker Malick Smalls was 1 for 1 on point-after attempts, but the Tigers failed on a two-point conversion after the final TD of the game.

The Tigers netted 245 total yards to the Pirates’ 406.

Bradwell will host Coffee County on Friday at Hokey Jackson Stadium for the Tigers’ senior-night game.
