Bradwell splits with Brunswick to end regular season

Bradwell Institutes Evan Crystal hits a home run Thursday against Brunswick in Hinesville.

Bradwell Institute split a baseball doubleheader with Brunswick on Thursday in Hinesville in its season finale.
The Tigers finished the season 7-15 overall and 1-13 in Region 3-AAAAA.
Thursday’s first game was unusually high-scoring, as the Pirates notched nine runs in the seventh inning to pull away for the 22-12 win.
Bradwell took a quick 5-3 lead in the first inning and held a 9-6 lead going into the fifth inning. BI pitcher Evan Crystal pitched the first four innings, walking five, striking out four and allowing six runs. Felton came in and pitched the fifth and sixth innings and gave up seven runs. Chris Bell pitched the last inning, when the Pirates mustered up eight hits for nine runs scored for the win.
The Tigers methodically laid down the bunt and used their speed to score. Darrell Hawkins was 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Crystal, Ryan Desbiens and Bell each went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Crystal also hit a solo home run to right field.
DJ Jefferson was 2 for
4 with one RBI, while Maxwell Ashe had a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers won the more-subdued nightcap 6-5 in nine innings. The teams were tied 5-5 in the ninth inning when the Tigers won off a bases-loaded.
Darrius Tilghman had a big game for BI, nailing a two-run homer in the fourth inning. He finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Felton and Desbiens each went 2 of 4; Felton netting two RBIs, and Desbiens had one RBI.
Desbiens pitched all nine innings, walking seven, striking out six and giving up five runs.
