The Bradwell Tigers track team competed in the Savannah Country Day home meet last week. The meet was in preparation for the Region Championships being held today (April 17) at Richmond Hill High School.

“I was very impressed with the overall performances,” Track Coach DeAndre Davis said. “Several of the athletes did not participate. The meet gave others a chance to see how much they have improved.”

Shamar cheered his teammates on during the meet, according to Davis, sitting out in preparation for the upcoming meet.

Freshman Devin Nash picked up the ball and ran with it. He won both the 100 (10.83) and 200 (21.59). He broke his own freshman record in the 100. After last week’s meet, he is ranked No. 5 in the state in the 100.

Brandon Williams really stepped up in the 110m hurdles. He won the event with a personal best time of 15.56.

“The goal is to get him the 14’s by sectionals in three weeks,” Davis said. “He has all of the tools to do it.”

There were a total of 14 PR’s at the meet. De’Leon Madria won the discus with a throw of 120 feet.

“He is looking to improve that throw by 20 feet,” his coach said. Madria also took second place in the shot put.

Kydis Duvall won the shot put with a throw of 43 feet.

“He continues to gain confidence in the shot and discus,” Davis said.

Both Madria and Duvall told their coach that they are ready for region.

“If they come in the top four, the duo would advance to sectionals in Valdosta,” Davis said.

David Spaulding continues to show promise in the jumping event, according to his coach. He won the long and triple jumps.

“I am extremely proud of my kids,” Davis said. “Win or lose (April 17), I am proud of how far they have come. You couldn’t ask for a better group of kids.”
