Bradwell’s hot start is turning into a cold finish. The Tigers, who won their first six games to assure the team’s first winning record in nearly a decade, fell 38-13 to Effingham County in a Region 2-AAAAAA football game in Springfield despite having two rushers go over 100 yards.

The Tigers’ Corth Nelson finished as the team’s leading rusher, carrying 20 times for 143 yards. Kevin Harris added 114 yards on 15 carries for the Tigers.

Bradwell’s trailed 31-6 at halftime, with Kevin Lockhart connecting on field goals of 38 and 45 yards.

Tigers’ quarterback Vencent Gilbert and Tah’Dreque Smith hooked up in the third quarter on a 22-yard touchdown, and Lockhart’s extra point pulled BI to within 31-13.

The Rebels added a score in the fourth quarter to make the final 38-13.

Kevin Milner and Andrew Rafferty led Bradwell defensively, with 10 and six tackles, respectively.

The Tigers are now 6-3 and 0-3 in 2-AAAAA. They play host to Glynn Academy at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Hokey Jackson Stadium.
