It was the first time the Hurricanes were able to schedule a second pre-season game in a long while. It was also the first time the Hurricanes, a Hinesville based semi-pro football team, took a victory away from the South Georgia Warriors of Thomasville downing the visiting team 19-13 Saturday night on a football field on Fort Stewart.

The ‘Canes had several new recruits on hand. Running backs Brandon Hills and Devon Grey were able to come in, giving Matavao some rest and fresh legs. Newcomer Shawn Jones showed his ability to scramble out of the pocket and run as a secondary quarterback and the ‘Canes added depth to their line.

The Hinesville men hit the field at Long Bell Stadium on June 5 to open their regular season. The first home game will be dedicated to the late Mary Jo Sharp, the team’s mother, and will start at 7 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults, children 12 and under are free.
