The St. James Sports Center hosted another successful Clash of the Champions Tournament on Dec. 15. Teams from Savannah to Wayne County came in by the busloads to participate in the annual basketball tournament, celebrating the sport of basketball, camaraderie and the upcoming joyous holiday season.
“It was a complete success,” Ernie Walthour, director of the St. James Sports Center and tournament coordinator said. “We had over 100 kids at this year’s event and the kids really appreciated the good time they had throughout the day.”
Walthour said they had a great turn out of wonderful athletes from the surrounding area.
In the 13- to 14-year-old bracket, Wayne County took the championship trophy after defeating the Panthers from Midway Middle School.
After eliminating teams from Wayne County, Waycross, Fort Stewart, the Fort Stewart Youth Challenge Academy and the Terrell Thomas Boys and Girls Club, the Coastal Crew Rebels faced a familiar foe as Rebels’ team one took on the Rebels’ team two for the championship.
In the ensuing battle, Rebels team one came out victorious and took the 15- to 18-year-old title.
