Developer pitches suburban stadium for Falcons

ATLANTA (AP) — Doraville city officials say an Atlanta developer has pitched a plan to build a new retractable roof stadium at the sprawling site of a closed GM plant. Luke Howe, an aide to the city's mayor, said that The Sembler Co. has proposed building a retractable roof stadium on 90 acres of the site. The auto plant site sits near the intersection of Interstate 85 and Interstate 285, a heavily traveled corridor on the outskirts of northeast Atlanta. A possible suitor for the stadium would be the Atlanta Falcons, who play in the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta. The lease runs through 2020 but team owner Arthur Blank has said he would like a new stadium.
