Former Panther assistant football coach Tony Dragon has been named new head baseball coach for Bryan County High School. Dragon worked as an assistant football coach at Liberty County High School before taking an assistant coaching job last year at Richmond Hill High School.

The position is Dragon’s first head coaching job. The Benedictine graduate will be filling the spot left by Al Butler, who resigned from the baseball squad to focus on coaching Bryan County’s softball team.

Dragon said he was excited to get started. He told reporters the hardest thing will be transitioning from an assistant to being the decision maker for the team. He said he’s played baseball his whole life and could not turn down the opportunity to be a head coach.

Under Butler, the Redskins posted a 14-13 record in class A.

Redskins athletic director Ron Lewis said the department will support Dragon’s plan to take the squad to the next level.
