The Lady Panthers took third place at the Region 3-AAA tournament last weekend and had five girls qualify for state.

According to track coach Nathan Mims, two of the five are ranked first and second in the state for the discus throw.

"Jana Jones is No. 1 in the state and Courtney Rhodes is No. 2 in the discus," Mims said.

Kourtney Alexander finished first in the pole vault. Mims said it was her second straight year to win the event.

Precious Williams came in second in the high jump and Niesha Walthour took second in the 100 hurdles. "We had 74 points total and took third place in region," Mims said.

The girls’ state meet is May 6-8. For the first time, the Georgia High School Association has partnered with Comcast and will broadcast the event on GHSA on demand on cable and GHSATV on the Web on May 11. The meet will be in Albany.
