STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern University begins a four-game homestand at Paulson Stadium to kick off its home football schedule. The 16th-ranked Eagles will play host to Austin Peay State, a scheduled 6 p.m. start.
The home opener against Austin Peay has also been designated as Faculty/Staff Day. All Georgia Southern Faculty and Staff members will be able to purchase a General Admission grass ticket for $12 with a valid Georgia Southern ID. Each Faculty/Staff member can purchase up to two tickets at $12 per ticket. The deadline to purchase tickets at the discounted rate is 3 p.m. Friday, September 5th, by phone at (912) 478-9467. These tickets cannot be purchased through the Athletics Department website.

The Eagles are coming off a 45-21 loss at then top-ranked Georgia to start the 2008 campaign. GS scored three touchdowns in the second half, actually matching the Bulldogs' scoring output over the final 30 minutes. In all 33 players saw their first action in an Eagle uniform (24 of which were true- and redshirt-freshmen).
All three scores were courtesy of freshmen: quarterback Lee Chapple (Norcross/Greater Atlanta Christian) rushed for a 1-yard TD, Samair Baker (Valrico, FL/Brandon) scored from two yards out, then late in the fourth quarter Leander Barney (Irmo, S.C./Irmo) caught a 34-yard touchdown pass.
Darell Norman (Linconlnton/Lincoln County) rushed for a team-high 60 yards and caught two passes. Marcus Russ (St. Petersburg, FL/Gibbs) caught a game-high four passes totaling 59 yards. Chapple completed 9-of-18 passes for 86 yards while Antonio Henton (Fort Valley/Peach County) was 10-of-18 for 102 yards and a touchdown. Tim Camp (Harlem/Harlem) set a personal-high with 48 receiving yards on three receptions.
Defensively, Quentin Taylor (Apopka, FL/Apopka) led the squad with five tackles - including a sack. Darrel Pasco (Clearwater, FL/Countryside), Brandon Echols (Decatur/St. Pius) and Dakota Walker (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) added four stops each.
Austin Peay opened the 2008 campaign last week at No. 2 ranked North Dakota State, losing 41-6. The Bison held APSU to 91 yards of total offense (56 rushing/35 passing), however, the Governors committed only two penalties. Jeff Lyle rushed for 28 yards on 12 carries while Ryan White rushed for 26 yards and accounted for the team's only touchdown (2-yard run). Gary Orr completed 2-of-9 passes for 21 yards while T.C. Jennings was 3-of-4 totaling 14 yards.
Terrence Holt, the Ohio Valley Conference reigning 'Special Teams Player of the Week' tallied a conference-record 250 kickoff return yards on seven attempts, including a long of 64 yards. Daniel Becker led the defense with 10 tackles. Daniel Swenson added six tackles, including a 14-yard sack. Kit Hartsfield and Amius Smith also added six tackles each.
