Former LCHS thrower sets college records

Former Liberty County High School track and field star Courtney Bennett broke two school records for Jacksonville State University in an indoor track and field meet this past Sunday in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Bennett, a thrower for Jacksonville State, competed in the shot put and weight throw competitions.

The junior finished first in the shot put competition, throwing a distance of 15.10 meters, or 49 feet, 6¾ inches.

She took second in the weight throw competition with a distance of 17.65 meters, or 57-feet, 11¼ inches.

Both throws by Bennett were personal bests and the previous weight throw record was also held by Bennett at 56-9.25.

Bennett graduated from Liberty County High in the spring of 2014.

Jacksonville State competes in the Ohio Valley Conference.
