First Presbyterian Christian Academy honored the Highlander athletes during the school’s annual awards ceremony Tuesday evening.
Athletes from each sporting program received participation certificates. Some athletes were also honored with awards for most improved and most valuable players.
Coaches also presented Highlander awards to athletes who went beyond most of the coaches’ expectations.
A special trophy was presented to football player Dylan Stewart. After being named the Coastal Courier player of the week four times during the season, the coaching staff selected Stewart as the recipient of this year’s Mike Reed Chevrolet/Coastal Courier football Player of the Year. The quarterback led the Highlanders to their first two wins of the program’s history.
Players from the Highlander baseball team were also recognized. Coach Ryan Harmon reminded the audience the team was set to play in the first round of the state tournament, meaning they still had work to do and more possible accolades ahead.
