Three members of the FPCA swim team placed in the GISA state meet on Jan. 28 at Georgia Tech.

Eighth-grader Kaylee Stouder, freshman Mackenzie McCartney and senior Xavier McCartney all placed in their respective events.

The only JV team member, Stouder, earned enough points herself to place FPCA eighth in the team category. Achieving her fastest times to date, Stouder placed fourth in the 50 breast, third in the 50 butterfly and third in the 100 individual medley.

In the off season, Stouder trains with Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team, and intends to swim on the varsity team at FPCA next year.

Mackenzie McCartney placed sixth in the 200 IM. She also competed in the 50 free and 100 free.

She said she will swim again next year for FPCA and hopes to compete in more events.

Xavier McCartney placed seventh in the 100 breast and ninth in the 100 free. He also competed in the 50 free.

He said he was surprised to place in the 100 free.

"The 100 free is an event I swim for enjoyment," he said. "I did not expect to place in that one. I knew I was faster in the 100 breast, so when I placed in both it surprised me."

McCartney is the only senior on the team. After graduation, he intends to attend UGA and eventually swim there.

"I hope the swim team continues to grow after I graduate," McCartney said. "We have some swimmers coming up that have real potential to succeed."

He said, however, that the swimmers were not the only component of the success.

"We have some phenomenal supporters of FPCA swim, namely Mrs. Cleo Hatfield, who has been instrumental in keeping the program alive," he said. I would like to thank her and all of the FPCA swim coaches for their time and effort in making sure that we had a successful year."
