FPCA’s Lady Highlanders final four bound

The Lady Highlanders have had a historic year, and they have no intention of stopping now. For the first time in program history, the FPCA Girls basketball team has made it to the GISA A final four game. Since the inception of the program in 2008, the FPCA girls have watched the men play in the state final and win; this is the first time that the girls are making a serious run for that elusive state ring.

In the Elite 8, the Lady Highlanders beat out Furtah Prep 43-26. Brianna Thomas had 15 points, Taniyah Bowman 14, Desiah Vincente 7, Helena Scott 4, Vivian Hinze 2, and Omoye Nosa 2. This win catapults the girls into the top four teams in the state. The Lady Highlanders will take on St. George Episcopal from Milner, Ga. As of press time, the final four game was set for Thursday, Feb. 21 at 12:30 p.m. at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Ga.

Head of School, Lauren Hale, is thrilled by the historic win for Lady Highlanders. Mrs. Hale stated, “I am extremely proud of the girls’ basketball team and their position in the final four. I remember sitting in my office this summer and talking to our AD, Shane Smith. He said that we had a team this year that can make it. Well, our team did make it”. Mrs. Hale will be traveling to Americus on Thursday to cheer the team on. “The girls have worked hard throughout this season; they have battled back from being down and suffered tough losses. Now, they are prepared and all of their hard work will show on Thursday.” The Lady Highlanders are coached by Rosby Frasier and Lee Christensen.
