STATESBORO — Georgia Southern quarterback Jayson Foster (Canton/Cherokee County) earned his second National ‘Player of the Week’ award this season. The College Sporting News announced Foster as one of four honored from around the country.
Foster also received the weekly honor from CSN on Sept. 17.
The senior quarterback rushed for a career-high 279 yards (on 28 carries) and three touchdowns leading the Eagles to a 38-35 win over 10th-ranked Wofford, while throwing for another 57 yards and returning a punt 14 yards. For the fourth time in his career Foster broke off an 80-plus yard TD run, 82 yards just two plays into the game.
During the game he set two Southern Conference records - most rushing yards in a quarter (174 in the 1st) and in a half (232 in the first half) - against a Terrier team that was leading the league in fewest rushing yards allowed at 117.
Following his record-setting performance, Foster broke his own GS standard for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a game set earlier this year and with 1,567 yards this season stands 35 shy of matching the NCAA FCS season record.
The Eagles (7-2 overall, 4-2 SoCon) play host to Furman this Saturday (Nov. 10), and can capture at least a share of their ninth conference title with a win. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be televised live on SportSouth.
