STATESBORO — Six games in Paulson Stadium and a regular season finale at Colorado State University highlight the 2007 Georgia Southern football schedule. Director of Athletics Sam Baker announced the schedule last week, following approval by the University Athletics Committee.
Recently hired head coach Chris Hatcher makes his Georgia Southern debut Sept. 8 against West Georgia. Ironically enough, Hatcher’s last game as Valdosta State head coach was at West Georgia to close out the 2006 season. That opens a stretch in which the Eagles play four of their first five games at Paulson Stadium.
The Eagles return a visit to Coastal Carolina on Sept. 15, battling the NCAA playoff participant Chanticleers, who finished 14th in the final Sports Network poll.
Georgia Southern begins Southern Conference play at Paulson Stadium the following Saturday (Sept. 22) hosting Chattanooga, then on Sept. 29 versus Western Carolina. A Family Weekend game on Oct. 6 against 22nd-ranked South Dakota State closes out the homestand.
In the following two weeks Georgia Southern hits the road, traveling to Elon (Oct. 13) and two-time defending national champion Appalachian State (Oct. 20).
For the second time in three years, Georgia Southern hosts The Citadel for Homecoming (Oct. 27). Games versus Southern Conference rivals Wofford (at Spartanburg, Nov. 3) and playoff participant Furman (Paulson Stadium, Nov. 10) precedes the regular season finale at Colorado State on Nov. 17. Wofford finished 23rd in the final ‘Top 25’ poll while Furman was 12th.
The game against the Rams marks Georgia Southern’s first against a Football Bowl Subdivision team since 2004 (at Georgia). A member of the Mountain West Conference, CSU finished 4-8 last year.
The NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs begin Saturday, Nov. 24, with the National Championship game scheduled for Dec. 14 in Chattanooga. Georgia Southern, winner of an unprecedented six FCS National Championships, will be aiming for their 17th trip to the playoffs.
Season ticket renewals will be mailed out on March 30. For ticket information call the Georgia Southern ticket office at (912) 681-0352 or 800-GSU-WINS.
