Hinesville native and former Bradwell Tiger and Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, Gary Guyton, has signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent.
Terrence Guyton, Gary’s brother said Guyton signed a two-year contract. The Boston Globe first reported the contract was likely early Tuesday.
“I am very excited about Gary’s two-year free agency deal with the Patriots,” Terrence Guyton said. “He has worked so hard to get to where he is today. Yeah, getting drafted would have been the icing on the cake, but the free agency allows him to still get the cake. So as a family we are proud that he realizing his dreams and we are eternally supportive in all his endeavors.”
Globe staff writer Mike Reiss said of all the undrafted free agents targeted by the Patriots, Guyton is arguably the highest priority signing.
Reiss reported Guyton (6-foot-1 1/2, 245 pounds) projects to inside linebacker in the Patriots’ 3-4 alignment. He is also considered a hard hitter on special teams.
Here are some of his numbers from the NFL combine, which helped his stock rise:
# 40-yard dash — 4.47 (1st among LBs)
# Vertical jump — 36.5 (1st among LBs)
# Broad jump — 10”6’’ (tied-1st among LBs)
# 3-cone drill — 7.07, (tied-8th)
# 60-yard shuttle — 11.57 (5th)
