The Liberty Rockers girls gymnastic team competed in its first meet of the year at D.E.E.N.O.S. in Rincon Saturday.
Leanna Mentes won first place in beam, bars, and second place overall.
Tyana Geronimo won first place over all.
The Liberty Rockers are a part of the Liberty County/ Armed Services Family YMCA in Hinesville. The team currently has about 15 members. They practice at the Y’s gymnastic building between six and 16 hours per week.
The team competes in sanctioned USA Gymnastic events. Competition is broken down into levels, based on the progression and age of the girls.
Last year the Rockers had members qualify and go to the state finals under the coaching leadership of Vanessa Kuhns, who has been coaching the team for seven years.
